Yaz Lancaster
Composer in Residence

Yaz Lancaster (they/them) is a Black transdisciplinary artist most interested in relational aesthetics, fragments, and liberatory politics. Their work is situated in a queer, collaborative, DIY ethos; and is presented in many different genres and mediums. They have worked with artists and organizations including A Far Cry, Andy Akiho, Bearthoven, Eliza Bagg (Lisel), Jacolby Satterwhite, Leilehua Lanzilotti, Massa Nera, Miss Grit, Nyokabi Kariuki, and Sean Pecknold; and they currently perform as laydøwn with guitarist-producer Andrew Noseworthy. Through independent study, Yaz spends time thinking about Marxist praxis, cultivating practices of care and intimacy,  the politics/poetics of horror, and digital (sub)cultures. They are a co-director of Sound Off: Music for Bail, co-manager of experimental label people | places | records, editor at Peach Mag, and freelance music journalist. Yaz lives with their little dog Nori in Lenapehoking (NYC), where you can find them playing chess, indulging in manga/anime, or powerlifting at the gym.
