Soprano Laquita Mitchell consistently earns acclaim on eminent international opera and concert stages, leading performances with Los Angeles Opera, San Francisco Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, New York City Opera, Washington National Opera, Opéra Comique in Paris, New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony Orchestra, The Philadelphia Orchestra, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, The Tanglewood Festival, Cleveland Orchestra, among many others. Ms. Mitchell is the soprano soloist in the 2021 Grammy- nominated oratorio “Sanctuary Road” by Paul Moravec and the Oratorio Society of New York. This season Mitchell will perform Beethoven’s Symphony No.9 with the Madison Symphony, Verdi Requiem with Rhode Island Philharmonic Mahler’s Symphony No.4 with the Sarasota Orchestra, reprises the role of Julie in Omar at the Carolina Performing Arts Center, and debuts with the Cincinnati May Festival under Marin Alsop in Nathaniel Dett’s “Ordering of Moses”. Mitchell ends her season with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, headlining Summer Nights and will sing Samuel Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915. In addition to Ms. Mitchell’s active singing career, she is a voice faculty member at CUNY Brooklyn College and the Mannes School of Music at the New School in New York City. Ms. Mitchell earned a music education degree from Westminster Choir College and has received her master of music degree and professional studies certificate from Manhattan School of Music.
