Brooklyn Youth Chorus communicates primarily via email memo and for reference, the most recent Concert Ensemble memos are archived here. Please make sure to add ecollard@brooklynyouthchorus.org and CEManager@byca.org to your safe contact list.

Attendance and Absence Requests

The Concert Ensemble attendance policy is designed to balance individual needs with the consistency required for ensemble work. Please review the options below to understand how different types of absences are handled before submitting a notification or request:

1. Rehearsal Absence (Notification Only)

  • Select this option when your chorister needs to miss a regular weekly rehearsal and has enough remaining discretionary absence points.

  • No approval required

  • Advance notice is appreciated

2. Rehearsal Exception (Request)

  • Select this option when absences will exceed the discretionary allowance and approval is required to remain in good standing.

  • Reviewed case by case

  • Approval is not automatic

3. Leave of Absence (Request)

  • Select this option for extended absences, typically approaching or exceeding one month, when the chorister intends to return.

  • Approved only for extenuating circumstances
