How to Audition and Join

WELCOME!

We are delighted that you are interested in joining the Brooklyn Youth Chorus Academy.  A student's acceptance and division assignment are based on his or her age, vocal ability, and musical experience. A love of singing and enthusiasm for music are the most important requirements. Below please find the information you will need to move forward.

Youth Chorus Divisions
Entrance to the Youth Chorus is by audition, and is open to girls in grades 2 through 11 and boys (with unchanged voices) in grades 2 through 8. Young men ages 13-22 may audition for our new Young Men's Ensemble. Auditions are scheduled throughout the year.

BYCA Annex
To meet the growing demand for our patented music training program, we have launched the BYCA Music Annex in a satellite location at Restoration Plaza in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. This program will give Prep Division choristers the option of receiving all of the benefits of BYCA's training off site, allowing more families to benefit from our offerings.

Audition Procedures 
Auditions are conducted in a relaxed, informal atmosphere. The student will perform simple pitch-matching exercises, sing scales, and sing the familiar song Happy Birthday.  All chorus members are reevaluated annually to assess their progress and determine their readiness for promotion to more advanced chorus divisions.
